Health and Safety

Health and Safety

We acknowledge that  the  provision  of  a  safe  and  healthy  workplace  for  all employees, contractors and visitors is not just a moral and legal responsibility, but also a prerequisite for us to achieve our mission of conducting demolition work to the highest possible standard.

We use an internal Management System which ensures that we have audited systems in place that protect our clients, our employees and the general public.  Our On-Site Workplace Health, Safety, Rehabilitation & Environmental Management Plan is built around the continuous improvement of our safety policies, processes and procedures.

Objectives

We will ensure compliance with  the  Occupational Health  and  Safety  Act  and Regulations, Industry Standards, Codes of Practice and other legislation by:
  • Striving to achieve an accident free work place
  • Providing and maintaining safe work places, plant and systems of work
  • Ensuring that nominated safety personnel are adequately trained and supported
  • Providing and maintaining personal protective equipment as required
  • Ensuring that health and safety is considered in the planning of all work processes
  • Making health and safety a key part of every position within the company
  • Providing on-going training and education to ensure that our employees work in the safest possible manner
  • Identifying, assessing, eliminating or controlling all potential hazards in order to provide a safe and healthy work place.
  • Involve our employees in the decision making process with regular consultation and training
  • Providing effective injury management and rehabilitation for all employees
  • Continuously reviewing and improving our safety performance
  • Taking a proactive approach to identify any potential incidents or accidents before they happen

Sustainability and Environmental Protection

We are acutely aware of the impact our industry has on landfill and the environment.  Our recycle and reuse strategy aims to reduce the volume of waste diverted to landfill.  By recycling and reusing items such as steel, copper, aluminium, glass, rubble, insulation, timber, brick and concrete, soil, furniture, carpet and gyprock, we are proactively minimising the impact of our industry on the environment.

We endeavour to re-use, salvage or recycle as much demolition material as possible in order to prevent excessive waste being tipped at landfill facilities.  To accomplish this, we are committed to the implementation, and continual improvement of our Environmental Management System within all levels of our organisation.

We have completed a number of Green Star Rating projects, achieving up to an 80% reduction of the waste from the demolition process reaching landfill.  This has enabled our clients to achieve the maximum 6 Star Green Rating on their projects.  Our approach is vital to your overall project rating, as demolition waste can consist of up to 80% of the entire waste produced on a project.  We can provide you with an analysis of waste and recycling during the tender, project or post-project stages.

On site, we sort demolition waste into separate bins or trolleys and recycle material wherever possible.  In the office, we separate and recycle bottles and cans, paper and cardboard, plastics and batteries.

Equal Opportunity and Diversity

We are an equal opportunity employer and aim to provide a workplace that fosters acceptance and respect for diversity, free from discrimination, harassment and violence, and actively promote and seek to achieve gender equality throughout the business.  We are committed to providing a positive working environment free from intimidation, threats, ridicule, bullying, harassment and physical violence.

COVID-19…

Picture
We have, like everyone else, been impacted by the arrival of COVID-19.  Under the health and safety legislation as a business, we understand that we have a duty of care to manage the risks of COVID-19 entering or spreading in our workplaces. We understand that we may not be able to eliminate the risk completely, instead we will consider other ways to reduce the risk as far as reasonably practicable.

In line with NSW Government and NSW Health directions, we have implemented policies and procedures and a COVID-19 Safety Plan to help every person in the workplace to identify exactly what actions we will need to take to put in place suitable and effective controls to manage COVID-19 in the workplace. We will also maintain, and regularly review our control measures to ensure they remain effective. This Plan will be updated in accordance with any changes to public health directions.

On site, we have implemented the following procedures:
  1. Site Specific COVID-19 Safety Plan
  2. Daily Pre-start Tool Box Talk and sign off by site staff to confirm they don’t have COVID-19 symptoms
  3. Temperature Testing prior to entering the site
  4. Provision of hand sanitiser
  5. Monitor compliance with all COVID-19 safety measures, including wearing a face mask, social distancing, surveillance testing, vaccination requirements and travel permit requirements

We’re officially registered as a COVID Safe business.
